About Direct Patient Care

What is Direct Patient Care?

Direct Patient Care, sometimes called Direct Primary Care or DPC, is a membership model for primary care. Instead of billing your insurance for every visit, you pay one flat monthly fee directly to the practice. In exchange, you get direct, personal access to Dr. Wright: real phone calls, unhurried appointments, and a relationship that has room to actually develop. Want the full explanation? Visit our What is DPC? page.

What's the difference between this and a regular doctor's office?

At a traditional practice, you're often waiting months for an appointment, seeing whoever is available, and getting rushed through a short visit. At Blue Skies Wellness DPC, you have direct phone, text, and email access to Dr. Wright, same-day or next-day appointments, and visits that run as long as they need to, all for one flat monthly fee with no insurance billing involved.

Do I still need health insurance?

Yes, for some things. Blue Skies Wellness DPC does not bill insurance for primary care services, but you'll still want insurance or another coverage plan for specialist referrals, lab work, imaging, prescriptions, and hospital or emergency care. Direct Patient Care tends to pair well with a high-deductible health plan or a health-sharing arrangement, which often carry lower premiums and can be reserved for larger or unexpected medical costs.

Will Blue Skies Wellness DPC bill my insurance?

No. Blue Skies Wellness DPC does not file or bill insurance of any kind. By removing the insurance middleman entirely, the only obligation here is to you, the patient. The time and resources that would otherwise go toward paperwork and prior authorizations go toward your care instead. You can still use your insurance for services outside of primary care, such as specialist visits, labs, imaging, and prescriptions.

How does Direct Patient Care work with my existing insurance plan?

That depends on the type of plan you have.

PPO plans offer flexibility and allow you to see providers without a referral. These tend to work well alongside a Direct Patient Care membership, since you can use your insurance for specialist visits, hospitalizations, and other services while receiving primary care directly through Blue Skies Wellness DPC.

HMO plans typically require you to select a primary care provider within their network and obtain referrals for other care. Because Blue Skies Wellness DPC does not participate in insurance networks, HMO plans generally do not align well with a DPC membership.

If you're unsure how your specific plan works with Direct Patient Care, Dr. Wright is happy to talk it through with you before you enroll.

Can I use Medicare or Medicaid with my membership?

Blue Skies Wellness DPC does not bill Medicare or Medicaid for primary care services. However, Medicare Part B and Medigap supplement plans do not require network providers or specialist referrals, which means they can pair reasonably well alongside a Direct Patient Care membership for services outside of primary care.

Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans are different: they typically require you to select an in-network primary care provider and get referrals for specialist care. Because Blue Skies Wellness DPC does not participate in Medicare Advantage networks, these plans generally do not align well with DPC membership.

If you have questions about how your specific coverage works, reach out and Dr. Wright will help you think it through.

Can a Direct Patient Care membership save me money?

It can, especially if you're currently paying high premiums for a plan you rarely use, or if you're frequently paying out of pocket for primary care visits under a high-deductible plan. By pairing a DPC membership with a lower-premium, high-deductible plan or a health-sharing arrangement, many patients find they spend less overall while getting more attentive, accessible care. Every situation is different, and Dr. Wright is glad to talk through whether the model makes financial sense for you.

Do you accept HSA funds for membership?

HSA and FSA eligibility for Direct Patient Care memberships can vary depending on your specific plan and employer. We'd encourage you to check with your HSA or FSA plan administrator to confirm whether your membership fees qualify. If you have questions, feel free to reach out and we can help you get the information you need.

What's included, and what things cost

What does the monthly membership include?

Your $125 monthly membership includes direct phone, text, and email access to Dr. Wright, up to 2 mobile visits per month, and same-day or next-day appointments. There are no co-pays, no per-visit billing, and no hidden fees. See the full breakdown on our Pricing page.

What if I need care but I'm not a member?

You don't have to be a member to be seen. A single acute or same-day visit is $225 flat rate, and a home visit is $299 flat rate. Both are available to members and non-members alike.

What's a mobile visit?

A mobile visit is care that comes to you rather than requiring a trip to the office. Your monthly membership includes up to 2 of these visits per month, useful for situations where getting to Clock Tower Square isn't realistic.

Is there a contract or commitment?

Membership is billed monthly at $125. If you have specific questions about enrollment terms, reach out to Dr. Wright directly at 401-485-3859 and she's happy to walk you through it. Click here to join now

What if I need to see a specialist?

Dr. Wright will coordinate a referral to a trusted specialist whenever your care requires it. One of the advantages of a smaller, relationship-based practice is that referrals come with real context, not just a fax of your chart. You'll still use your insurance for specialist visits and any related imaging or procedures.

Who This Is For

What kinds of conditions do you treat?

Blue Skies Wellness DPC covers a wide range of adult primary care, including urgent and acute care, chronic disease management, hormone balance and wellness, osteopathic care (OMT), and more. See the complete list on our Services page. If you have a concern that isn't listed, reach out, Dr. Wright will help you find the right path forward.

How does Direct Patient Care help patients with chronic conditions?

Ongoing conditions like blood pressure management, GI issues, and hormone imbalances benefit enormously from consistency: a doctor who knows your full history, monitors changes over time, and is reachable when something shifts. At Blue Skies Wellness DPC, you're not starting from scratch at every visit or waiting weeks to be seen when something changes. Extended appointment times, direct access, and a real ongoing relationship make it easier to stay on top of chronic conditions before they become bigger problems.

What if I don't have frequent healthcare needs?

Direct Patient Care is still worth considering. Having a doctor who genuinely knows you, is available when something does come up, and can see you the same day or next day means you're far less likely to end up in urgent care or the emergency room for something that could have been handled quickly in a primary care setting. Prevention and accessibility have real value even when you're feeling well.

Are there medications or treatments you don't prescribe?

Blue Skies Wellness DPC focuses on comprehensive primary care and whole-person wellness. The practice does not prescribe or manage long-term treatment involving controlled substances. If you have questions about whether your specific care needs are a good fit for this practice, reach out before you enroll and Dr. Wright will give you an honest answer.

Do you see children or pediatric patients?

Blue Skies Wellness DPC does not currently see pediatric patients. The practice is focused on adult primary care.

Is there a family discount?

Blue Skies Wellness DPC does not offer a family discount at this time. Each adult member enrolls individually at $125 per month.
